L3Harris Technologies has secured a contract from Australia to deliver an integrated command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence (C4I) suite for the Australian Army’s Bushmaster protected mobility vehicles.

Awarded under Project Land 4111 Phase 2, the contract includes system design, integration, installation, and testing across more than 80 Bushmaster command and troop carrier variants.

The C4I package is intended to provide military personnel with secure, encrypted, and interoperable communications capabilities. Potential equipment includes L3Harris’s AN/PRC-171 compact team radio, MC-3000I mobile command intercom system, and Falcon III RF-7800H-MP wideband HF/VHF manpack radio. The program is also expected to incorporate government-furnished radios subject to US export control regulations.

Project activities will be conducted at L3Harris’s Indo-Pacific Regional Support Centre in Pinkenba, Queensland, with associated support activities planned over three years. The Australian-led engineering initiative is also expected to support local workforce development, create employment opportunities, and strengthen apprenticeship programs.

Project Land 4111: Modernizing Australia’s Ground Fleet

The latest contract builds on previous Bushmaster communications integration activities undertaken under Project Land 4111, an Australian defence initiative focused on standardizing ground vehicle capabilities while enhancing operational effectiveness, lethality, and survivability.

In addition to upgrading the Bushmaster protected mobility fleet, the broader program includes improvements to Hawkei light utility vehicles. Procurement and support activities cover more than 200 new Bushmasters, maintenance support for approximately 1,000 existing Bushmaster vehicles, and the acquisition of 1,100 new Hawkei vehicles.

Through this initiative, Australia aims to strengthen its land force communications infrastructure, improve battlefield coordination, and enhance the operational readiness of its protected vehicle fleet.
