Lithuania has awarded KNDS Deutschland a contract to procure 12 Leguan armored bridge layers, enhancing its combat engineering and mobility capabilities for armored and mechanized forces. The 210 million euro ($251.4 million) deal includes spare parts, training programs for operators and technicians, simulators, and full logistical and technical support packages.

Each Leguan unit will be supplied with two 14-meter bridge sections and one 26-meter bridge, meeting MLC 80 standards for heavy military traffic. This allows the crossing of tracked vehicles up to 73 tons and wheeled vehicles up to 84 tons, ensuring compatibility with modern heavy armor formations. The system is mounted on a Leopard 2 tank chassis and is operated by a crew of two specialists.

Capable of rapid deployment, the Leguan can bridge gaps of up to 25 meters in under six minutes, providing quick access across rivers, trenches, and destroyed infrastructure. The platform is already in service or procurement across 22 countries, with the most recent contract before Lithuania’s order signed with the Danish Armed Forces in December.
