Washington has cleared a prospective $1.5 billion defense package for Austria that includes 12 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters and related military equipment.
According to the US State Department, the acquisition will enhance Austria’s deterrence capabilities against current and future threats while improving its ability to operate alongside US and allied forces. The department highlighted that the sale would further advance military interoperability between Austria and the United States.
The State Department also stated that the deal supports broader US strategic and foreign policy goals by strengthening the defense capabilities of a key European partner that promotes political stability and economic development in the region. Congress has been notified of the proposed transaction and must approve it before the sale can proceed.
