Patria has signed an agreement to supply its MUSCL passive radar system to an undisclosed European NATO member to enhance its ability to detect and track drones and aircraft.
The contract includes multiple sensor stations designed to provide surveillance coverage across designated areas of interest. The package also covers spare parts, technical support, and training to facilitate rapid deployment and help develop the customer’s operational capabilities. Patria has not disclosed the value or additional details of the agreement.
Patria MUSCL Passive Radar System
Patria MUSCL is a transportable passive radar system designed to detect and track airborne targets in real time, including low-altitude and stealth threats. Rather than transmitting its own radar signals, the system uses existing broadcast signals as illuminators of opportunity to identify and monitor aerial targets.
Its passive architecture does not emit detectable radar signals, providing a covert surveillance capability that can make it more difficult for adversaries to identify or locate the system. This characteristic also enables MUSCL to be deployed in urban environments and other sensitive areas.
The system can operate independently or as part of a network of multiple MUSCL stations. When networked, the stations can provide 360-degree aerial surveillance with detection ranges extending to hundreds of kilometers, depending on operating conditions and configuration.
MUSCL can be rapidly deployed in either transportable or fixed configurations and integrated with existing command-and-control networks. Its flexible architecture supports both area and point surveillance missions, including airspace monitoring, drone detection, critical infrastructure protection, and border surveillance.
The agreement highlights the growing adoption of passive radar technologies for persistent aerial surveillance and counter-drone applications across European NATO countries.
