The UK is developing a multi-technology sensing capability to provide troops with improved visibility in environments affected by smoke, dust, and other obscurants.
The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), alongside Amethyst Research and Lancaster University, has advanced a new detector aimed at enhancing battlefield vision in difficult conditions.
At its core, the detector features a thin absorber layer that suppresses unwanted heat-related interference. This allows the system to detect weaker infrared signals more effectively without compromising measurement accuracy.
