Lockheed Martin has completed the first live-fire test of its Kodiak containerized launcher, demonstrating its ability to deliver GMLRS precision fires from land, air, and sea-based platforms.
For the demonstration, the company launched a Reduced-Range Practice Rocket, a training round employed by HIMARS and M270A2 MLRS crews to practice firing GMLRS and other MLRS Family of Munitions.
The Kodiak is intended to provide precision-fire capability to platforms that are unable to support conventional rocket launchers. Its containerized design offers a potentially more affordable and adaptable solution while maintaining a lower-observable signature than mobile launchers such as HIMARS and M270A2 MLRS.
A single container can carry up to 12 GMLRS rockets, giving operators the ability to scale firepower while maintaining a compact footprint.
The latest demonstration builds on Lockheed Martin’s previous testing of the Grizzly containerized launcher, developed to engage drone threats using Joint Air-to-Ground Missiles.
The two systems reflect the company’s broader effort to integrate offensive and defensive weapons into containerized launch platforms, providing greater flexibility for distributed military operations.
