KNDS Deutschland has confirmed the completion of deliveries for all 44 Leopard 2A7HU main battle tanks ordered by Hungary, concluding a multi-year armored forces modernization program initiated in 2018. In addition to the tanks, the broader contract provided Hungary with key enablers, including PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery systems, armored engineering and recovery vehicles, and a dedicated simulation, training, and logistics framework to ensure long-term operational readiness. The Leopard 2A7HU fleet is now operational with the Hungarian Army’s 1st Armored Brigade and is intended to fully replace legacy T-72M1 tanks inherited from the Cold War era. Designed for high-intensity combat, the Leopard 2A7HU offers advanced protection, mobility, and firepower. The platform measures 7.7 meters in hull length, extends to around 11 meters with the gun forward, and maintains a low profile at approximately 3 meters in height. Its Rheinmetall L55A1 120 mm main gun provides extended range and lethality, while secondary weapons include both coaxial and remotely operated machine guns supported by smoke launchers for survivability. The completion of this delivery significantly strengthens Hungary’s armored deterrence posture and aligns its ground forces more closely with NATO standards and multinational operational requirements.
