Poland’s Bumech has signed a partnership deal with South African defense manufacturer OTT Technologies to localize the production of OTT armored platforms in Poland.
The move represents Bumech’s entry into the defense industry, covering production, sales, and distribution of OTT vehicles for the European market.
The initial scope includes the PUMA, LM, and Bulldog armored vehicles, with a framework agreement to incorporate anti-drone protection systems in the future.
Production will begin with component kits delivered from South Africa, progressively shifting to EU-based suppliers. The long-term goal is licensed manufacturing with a minimum of 70% EU-origin components.
As part of localization, systems such as engines and drivetrains will be redesigned to align with EU environmental and regulatory requirements.
Bumech will finance the venture comprehensively, including setup and sales-related support.
The first phase of the partnership will extend until December 31, 2027, with the possibility of renewal if agreed milestones are met.
The Polish defense sector alone is projected to need around 3,000 armored vehicles, supplemented by growing demand from law enforcement and border protection agencies.
