KNDS is preparing to introduce its lightweight 105mm artillery gun into Poland’s defense industrial ecosystem and explore integration with the country’s TOPAZ digital fire-control network.
The German-French defense group has signed a Letter of Intent with Polish defense technology company WB GROUP covering the potential supply, domestic integration, and lifecycle support of the 105 LG for the Polish Armed Forces.
Under the proposed cooperation, KNDS and WB GROUP plan to develop a turnkey artillery solution that combines Polish technologies with the 105 LG and enables compatibility with the TOPAZ fire-control system. The companies said the objective is to deliver a digital, network-enabled artillery capability tailored to Poland’s operational requirements.
No purchase contract or specific order quantity has been announced at this stage.
KNDS has also indicated its readiness to localize production of its ERG3 long-range ammunition for the 105 LG in Poland. If implemented, local ammunition production could further expand domestic industrial participation and strengthen the country’s artillery supply chain.
The initiative builds on KNDS’ established industrial cooperation with Poland, including activities involving the maintenance and modernization of Leopard 2 main battle tanks.
105 LG Lightweight Artillery Gun
The 105 LG is a lightweight, towed 105mm artillery system developed for military units requiring artillery firepower while avoiding the greater weight and logistical requirements associated with larger-caliber systems.
The gun weighs approximately 1,650 kilograms (3,637 pounds), enabling air transport, including deployment using medium-lift helicopters. This characteristic makes the system suitable for airborne and air-mobile formations that may need to rapidly move artillery into locations where heavier systems are difficult to deploy.
When firing KNDS’ ERG3 ammunition, the 105 LG has a stated maximum range of up to 17 kilometers (10.56 miles). KNDS also states that the gun can achieve a burst rate of six rounds in 15 seconds and a sustained firing rate exceeding 16 rounds per minute.
According to KNDS, the 105 LG is already operated by national guard forces. Its relatively straightforward operation and maintenance requirements are intended to reduce training demands while supporting operational readiness.
The proposed cooperation with WB GROUP could combine the 105 LG’s mobility and firepower with Poland’s domestic digital battlefield technologies, particularly the TOPAZ command-and-control and fire-control ecosystem.
