Belgium conducted a new air operation over the Black Sea on 14 November 2025 under Operation Black Sea Region, sending F-16s to fly alongside French Mirage jets. The mission, carried out above international waters, took place in one of the most sensitive maritime corridors connecting Europe, the Caucasus, and the Middle East, reaffirming freedom of navigation and overflight as non-negotiable pillars of European security. By participating actively in this theatre, Belgium reinforces its contribution to regional stability and allied deterrence. The air package included a fully configured Belgian F-16 with external fuel tanks, flying in close formation with four French Mirage 2000s, including twin-seat strike and training models. The operation showcased tactical coordination at high altitude, underpinned by meticulous planning, compatible communications, shared procedures, and harmonised rules of engagement, essential for operating safely near areas of heightened tension.
