Sweden has selected France’s Naval Group to build four new frigates for the Swedish Navy in a major international defense procurement deal. The vessels are expected to begin delivery by 2030 and will strengthen Sweden’s maritime air defense capabilities. Stockholm evaluated proposals from the UK’s Babcock, Spain’s Navantia, and Saab before selecting the French company, citing rapid delivery timelines and proven operational performance. The estimated value of each frigate is expected to exceed 10 billion kronor ($1.1 billion), depending on final weapons and equipment configurations. The agreement marks a significant export success for Naval Group following previous competition losses in the Nordic market.
