The US Air Force has selected MetroStar Systems’ Iris artificial intelligence maintenance platform for deployment at Travis Air Force Base, introducing advanced digital technologies to improve aircraft sustainment, maintenance efficiency, and technician safety. The platform combines generative AI, computer vision, wearable devices, and digital documentation into a unified maintenance environment that assists personnel working in confined, hazardous, or technically demanding areas of military aircraft. Maintainers receive AI-guided access to technical manuals, maintenance procedures, troubleshooting instructions, and step-by-step repair guidance while performing complex tasks. Iris also enables secure live video streaming that connects technicians with remote engineering specialists for real-time assistance, reducing maintenance delays and improving diagnostic accuracy. Every maintenance activity is automatically recorded and stored in a searchable digital logbook, improving documentation quality, regulatory compliance, and long-term fleet maintenance records. The deployment represents part of the Air Force’s broader effort to adopt artificial intelligence and digital engineering technologies that increase aircraft readiness, reduce downtime, and enhance operational effectiveness across future sustainment operations.
