Thales has been awarded a contract by the Qatar Emiri Air Force to deliver a new generation of air defense radar systems, enhancing Qatar’s ability to monitor and defend its airspace against evolving threats. The package includes the GM200 MM/A and GM400α Ground Master radars, providing integrated, multi-range aerial surveillance and improved national-level deterrence.

In addition to the radar systems, the contract includes sustainment infrastructure, specialist management support, and long-term training programs for Qatari operators and technicians. Thales confirmed that local capability-building and team development activities will continue through 2036.

The GM200 MM/A is designed as a highly mobile, multi-mission radar capable of tracking small aerial targets at distances of up to 350 kilometers. It is fully containerized in a 20-foot ISO unit with integrated power, mast, and command modules, allowing transport by truck and rapid deployment in less than 15 minutes. The GM400α radar provides detection across a wide range of maneuvering targets in complex environments and is similarly containerized, with a built-in lifting system enabling deployment in about one hour. Both systems are integrated through Thales’s Secure Digital Integration Platform, delivering a shared, real-time airspace picture across protected networks that link sensors with command-and-control systems.
