Patria and Latvia have finalized a life-cycle support agreement covering the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) 6×6 vehicles operated by the Latvian Armed Forces.

The contract complements the broader life-cycle management arrangement signed in 2024 between Latvia, Finland, and Patria for the CAVS initiative, which was later expanded to include Sweden and Denmark.

Under the new deal, Latvia will establish dedicated sustainment processes and responsibilities tailored to its fleet. The agreement also integrates both domestic and original equipment manufacturer support activities into a single framework aligned with the wider CAVS life-cycle management structure, helping ensure long-term operational readiness and supply security.

Common Vehicle Program

Launched by Finland in 2020, the CAVS program aims to provide allied militaries with a unified next-generation 6×6 armored vehicle platform. The vehicles are jointly developed within the program and produced in Finland with components sourced from Denmark.

Patria is currently managing nearly 2,000 vehicle orders under the initiative, with more than 250 units already delivered. The partnership now includes seven countries, with Germany becoming the fourth member and United Kingdom and Norway joining most recently.

Features

Derived from the Patria 6×6 platform, the armored vehicle is engineered to deliver strong protection, high mobility, mission flexibility, and cost efficiency.

The vehicle can weigh up to 20 tons and measure approximately 7.5 meters (24.6 feet) in length depending on configuration. It is typically crewed by a commander and driver—with an optional gunner—and can carry as many as 10 soldiers.

Equipped with a 394-horsepower diesel engine from Scania, the NATO-compatible platform can reach speeds of up to 100 kilometers (62 miles) per hour and operate over distances of around 700 kilometers (435 miles). Its modular design supports multiple mission roles, including command posts, medical evacuation vehicles, armored personnel carriers, and carriers for the Patria NEMO turreted mortar system.
