South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace has signed a supply agreement with GE Aerospace to acquire engine kits for the nation’s FA-50 fighter aircraft and KUH-1 Surion helicopters, according to reports from local media outlets.
The contract includes 40 F404 engine kits for the FA-50, TA-50, and T-50 aircraft, as well as 88 T700 engine kits for the KUH-1 fleet.
Under the partnership, GE Aerospace will produce key engine components, while Hanwha will perform assembly and testing in South Korea before transferring the finished engines to Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) for final installation.
With more than 13 million flight hours, the F404 engine is a proven and trusted powerplant used in aircraft such as the F/A-18 Hornet, Tejas, and the FA-50 family, valued for its ease of maintenance and operational reliability.
Similarly, the T700 engine boasts over 100 million flight hours and serves as the backbone for major rotorcraft platforms including the UH-60 Black Hawk and AH-64 Apache, highlighting its global dependability and versatile performance.
