The US Army has awarded Mack Defense a contract worth up to $221.8 million to build as many as 450 M917A3 Heavy Dump Trucks (HDTs). The new vehicles will serve the active Army, reserve components, and the National Guard. Manufacturing will take place at Mack’s specialized Experience Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania—expanded in 2021 with a $6.5 million investment—and at its historic Lehigh Valley plant in Macungie. Upon deployment, the HDTs will support airfield, roadway, and landing strip construction and upkeep, as well as supply facility and motor pool maintenance, and provide disaster relief during severe weather events.
