KNDS has been awarded a Swiss contract to supply 32 AGM wheeled self-propelled artillery systems derived from the RCH 155. The decision follows Switzerland’s selection of the platform in late 2024 over the Archer Mobile Howitzer to modernize and replace its long-serving M109 artillery fleet. Deliveries to the Swiss military are planned from 2031 onward and will encompass ammunition loading containers, training assets, and integrated logistical support services.
The artillery systems will utilize the Piranha IV 10×10 armored vehicle from GDELS-Mowag as their mobility platform. At the heart of the system is a highly automated, remotely controlled gun module that enables firing operations while the vehicle is in motion—a capability not commonly available in conventional artillery systems. This automation allows the AGM to operate with a minimal two-person crew, supporting rapid deployment and relocation tactics while leaving room for an optional third operator or additional mission equipment.
Capable of firing nine rounds per minute, the system offers all-around engagement capability through a 360-degree traverse and elevation angles ranging from -2.5 to 65 degrees. It stores 30 projectiles ready for immediate use and 144 modular charge units. Depending on the ammunition type, targets can be engaged at ranges reaching 40 kilometers with base-bleed ammunition and up to 54 kilometers with rocket-assisted rounds. The RCH 155 has also attracted international customers, securing procurement commitments from Germany, the UK, Qatar, and Ukraine.
