The Canadian government has finalized a C$2.6 billion ($1.88 billion) deal to purchase 26 HIMARS rocket launchers from the United States, marking a major step forward in the modernization of the Canadian Army’s long-range firepower. The government-to-government procurement, conducted through the US Foreign Military Sales framework, covers launchers, ammunition, spare parts, training programs, and logistical support, with deliveries expected from 2029 onward.

The agreement comes after Washington approved the sale in late 2025 and follows a large-scale HIMARS production contract awarded to Lockheed Martin earlier this year. Acquired under the Long-Range Precision Strike (Land) program, the system will provide Canada with the ability to strike targets at ranges exceeding 300 kilometers. HIMARS is compatible with a range of MLRS munitions capable of engaging targets from 84 kilometers to over 500 kilometers away. Ottawa also sees future potential for integrating anti-ship missile capabilities onto the platform, enhancing defense coverage along Canada’s maritime approaches and Arctic regions.
