The US Army has issued a $904.6 million contract to Raytheon for the low-rate initial production of its Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS). The agreement covers five radar systems, six spare units, and a full package of supporting hardware, software, services, and documentation.
The contract represents a modification to a broader $2.1 billion agreement established in 2024, under which multiple follow-on orders have been placed, including a $1.02 billion purchase last February and a $1.7 billion deal in 2025. Together, these awards bring the total program value to around $5.3 billion. Work for the latest contract will be conducted at Raytheon’s Andover, Massachusetts facility, with completion targeted for August 2031, under the supervision of the Army’s contracting command at Redstone Arsenal.
Developed to replace the aging radar systems of the Patriot missile system, LTAMDS delivers 360-degree situational awareness, enabling simultaneous engagement of multiple threats, including high-speed targets traveling at Mach 5.
Raytheon has collaborated with TTM Technologies to support radio frequency and electronic subsystem development. Additionally, the company invested $53 million in late 2025 to expand its Andover production line, scaling up output to meet increasing international demand for the system.
