Raytheon’s SPY-6(V)1 radar has been selected by Germany for installation aboard its new fleet of eight F127-class air defense frigates.

The Foreign Military Sales proposal includes technical services and integration support to customize the radar for the F127’s design.

If approved, the acquisition will mark Germany as the first non-US customer to adopt the SPY-6 air and missile defense radar.

The SPY-6(V)1 system incorporates four fixed arrays, each consisting of 37 Radar Modular Assemblies (RMAs), providing full 360-degree coverage and advanced situational awareness.

Using scalable Gallium Nitride technology, the radar delivers multi-mission performance, including air and ballistic missile defense, surface tracking, and robust protection against electronic warfare threats.

As part of the SPY-6 radar family currently deployed across seven US Navy ship classes, it represents a new standard in naval sensor capability.

According to reports, Germany opted for Raytheon’s SPY-6 instead of Lockheed Martin’s SPY-7, while Lockheed Martin remains responsible for integrating the Aegis combat and weapon control system on the new frigates.
