The United States has issued clearance for a potential $200-million sale to the United Kingdom for more Navy Multiband Terminals (NMT), expanding secure AEHF satellite communications for British naval forces.
Under the request, London seeks six new AEHF NMT systems, to be added to an earlier package that included two terminals valued at just over $41 million, bringing the total number to eight units. RTX Corporation is named as the lead contractor on the program.
The approval features a comprehensive support bundle, including crypto modules, submarine high-data-rate communications masts, integration and testing services, spares, training, documentation, and government-contracted sustainment assistance. These assets will equip the Royal Navy’s Dreadnought-class submarines, improving strategic connectivity across ships, land sites, and underwater systems where communications are not contested.
The authorization highlights the strong and continuing defense collaboration between Washington and London, supported by several major initiatives progressing through 2024–2025. Among the most significant is the UK’s acquisition of the E-7 Wedgetail early-warning aircraft with US support in integration and certification.
Additional cooperation has included expanded logistical and mission-data support for the UK’s F-35B fleet in 2025, as well as recurring missile procurement programs, such as recent approvals for AIM-120 AMRAAM rounds. The two countries also continue joint sustainment efforts for the P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, covering sensors, training, and lifecycle support.
