Agile Defense has secured a significant subcontract under a $44-million US Navy initiative to modernize and protect the Military Sealift Command’s (MSC) global information technology systems.

The five-and-a-half-year contract, awarded to Savvee Consulting, provides for advanced IT engineering aimed at enhancing cyber resilience, improving operational efficiency, and increasing network reliability across MSC’s worldwide logistics operations.

Under the subcontract, Agile Defense will deliver cybersecurity services, data analytics, and technical sustainment to support MSC’s fleet of more than 130 civilian-crewed vessels tasked with transporting vital supplies, munitions, and fuel for US and allied forces.

According to Jay Burkhardt, Vice President for Navy and Marine Corps Operations at Agile Defense, the collaboration reflects the company’s continuing mission to embed secure, high-performance digital capabilities within naval operations.

The initiative is part of a larger Navy effort to advance mission assurance through digital transformation and aligns with DoD-wide programs designed to tighten cyber hygiene across maritime and operational systems.

Understanding the Military Sealift Command
The Military Sealift Command functions as the logistical arm of the US Navy, ensuring uninterrupted supply chains to deployed forces through a global network of support and auxiliary vessels. Based in Norfolk, Virginia, the command operates a diverse fleet including combat support, surveillance, and medical ships.

In 2025, MSC introduced the John Lewis-class fleet oilers, expanding its refueling capacity for carrier strike groups. The command also began implementing enhanced cyber defense measures on its auxiliary ships and completed a major upgrade to its Global Maritime Operations Center, improving real-time fleet monitoring and logistics coordination worldwide.
