The US State Department has authorized a possible foreign military sale to Lebanon for M1085A2 and M1078A2 medium tactical vehicles (MTVs), worth an estimated $90.5 million.
The proposed package covers 5-ton M1085A2 and 2.5-ton M1078A2 MTVs—both winch-less variants—along with spare components, technical documentation, training for personnel, and full logistics support. Oshkosh Defense is named as the lead contractor.
MTVs are rugged, multipurpose military trucks engineered to carry troops and equipment over rough and varied terrain. The A2 versions of the M1085 and M1078 feature strengthened payload capacity, superior off-road handling, and adaptability for missions ranging from supply transport to tactical maneuvering.
Their modular construction and high mobility make them a vital element in contemporary ground logistics fleets.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency noted that the procurement will increase the Lebanese Armed Forces’ (LAF) operational mobility, enhancing their ability to respond quickly to border incursions, conduct counter-terror operations, and participate in joint training activities with US forces.
It further stated that Lebanon is capable of integrating these vehicles easily, and the sale will not influence the regional military balance or diminish US defense preparedness.
The United States continues to support Lebanon through various military aid initiatives aimed at bolstering the LAF’s capabilities and national security posture.
To date, the US has facilitated more than $1.9 billion in ongoing FMS cases for Lebanon and invested over $3 billion since 2006 to help develop the LAF as a key stabilizing institution.
Since 2014, nearly $23 million has also been provided under the International Military Education and Training program, with over 6,000 LAF members trained in the US since 1970.
