Volatus Aerospace of Canada has purchased a portfolio of advanced uncrewed aircraft system (UAS) technologies from UK-based Caliburn Holdings for approximately 2 million Canadian dollars ($1.4 million).
The acquisition grants Volatus access to aircraft blueprints, test data, and engineering assets to accelerate the creation of next-generation, long-endurance, fixed-wing drone platforms.
According to the company, the move supports Canada’s goal of enhancing sovereign aerospace and defense capabilities, with applications across national security, surveillance, and infrastructure protection.
Included in the deal are three modular UAS designs with takeoff weights ranging from 100 to 265 kilograms (220–584 pounds), capable of carrying 15–50 kilograms (33–110 pounds) of sensors or equipment.
These drones can operate continuously for 12 hours to seven days, depending on payload and mission profile.
Optimized for border patrol, maritime and Arctic monitoring, and critical infrastructure inspection, the aircraft can function individually or in networked formations to support large-scale defense operations.
