Mack Defense has received a US Army contract for 86 M917A3 heavy dump trucks, designed to boost the service’s logistical and engineering readiness across diverse mission sets.
The order broadens the Army’s inventory of next-generation construction and transport vehicles, supporting tasks ranging from infrastructure building to combat zone recovery operations.
Derived from the Mack Granite platform, the M917A3 incorporates military-grade enhancements including all-wheel drive, a reinforced frame, improved suspension, and armored crew protection. Each truck can transport up to 27 tons, making it ideal for heavy-duty operations in austere environments.
The acquisition continues the Army’s Heavy Dump Truck modernization program, replacing aging M917 fleets in service since the 1980s.
Production will be carried out within Mack’s US facilities, backed by a domestic supply chain to maintain consistent manufacturing and lifecycle support.
Modernization Through Tactical Mobility Upgrades
This procurement aligns with the Army’s effort to streamline logistics, enhance mobility, and standardize its tactical vehicle fleet.
Ongoing programs include improved medium tactical vehicles with digital systems and higher payloads, as well as off-road performance enhancements.
The broader modernization drive extends to other services, such as the Marine Corps’ updated logistics vehicle systems and the Common Tactical Truck initiative, which explores hybrid-electric and advanced powertrain technologies for future fleets.
