The United States has approved a possible $570 million sale of RTX’s Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) to the Netherlands.
Amsterdam has requested up to 232 AIM-120C-8 AMRAAMs and eight guidance sections, ensuring a steady stock of modern air-to-air weapons. The package also includes control section spares, captive training missiles, missile containers, spare parts, consumables, repair services, personnel training, and full logistics support.

According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the deal will strengthen US foreign policy and security goals by supporting a key NATO ally, contributing to political stability and defense resilience in Europe.
The AMRAAM, capable of beyond-visual-range and all-weather engagements, can be launched from both fighter aircraft and ground-based air defense systems, targeting drones, cruise missiles, helicopters, and hostile jets.

The Netherlands already uses AMRAAMs with its F-35 Lightning II fleet and NASAMS systems, with the acquisition reflecting NATO’s heightened readiness in response to increased Russian drone activity near Polish airspace.
Other alliance members are also bolstering defenses: Finland has requested AIM-120D-3 AMRAAMs, Norway seeks GBU-39B Small Diameter Bombs, and Belgium has applied for AIM-9X Sidewinders.
