Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $104.6-million US Department of Defense contract to produce SPY-7 solid-state AESA radars under a foreign military sale for Canada. The multifunction radar offers long-range detection of up to 3,000 miles, supporting air defense, ballistic missile defense, surface surveillance, and fire control in demanding conditions. Work will be executed by Lockheed’s Rotary and Mission Systems unit in Moorestown, New Jersey, with completion expected by January 2032. While the Pentagon notice did not specify platform integration, SPY-7 is widely expected to equip Canada’s future Surface Combatant fleet, replacing aging Halifax-class frigates. Lockheed confirmed its selection for the program in 2020, positioning the radar as a cornerstone of Canada’s next-generation naval capability.
