Saab of Sweden has received its third Lithuanian order for the Mobile Short Range Air Defense (MSHORAD) system, bolstering the Baltic state’s air defense posture as security concerns in the region continue to rise.

Valued at roughly 1.4 billion Swedish krona ($148 million), the new contract covers deliveries from 2026 through 2030, expanding Lithuania’s inventory with a third MSHORAD battery.

Under the agreement, Saab will install the system on Oshkosh JLTV 4×4 vehicles, giving Lithuanian forces improved mobility and tactical flexibility.

MSHORAD is a highly mobile air defense platform designed to shield moving units. It brings together the RBS 70 NG missile system, Giraffe 1X radar, command-and-control components, and a datalink network, enabling rapid detection and engagement of hostile aircraft, drones, and incoming missiles.

Lithuania has deepened its collaboration with Saab over the past two years. In 2023, it placed an order for Carl-Gustaf M4 ammunition—followed in January 2025 by a contract for additional launchers and spare parts.

The latest order builds on two earlier MSHORAD procurements placed in July 2024 and later that year, both aimed at delivering mobile air-defense capabilities incorporating the RBS 70 NG missile, Giraffe 1X radar, and C2 architecture.
