Hanwha Aerospace has signed its third agreement with the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA) to deliver 24 additional K9 VIDAR self-propelled howitzers, increasing Norway’s total inventory to 52 systems. Deliveries under this contract are scheduled to finish by 2027. The new howitzers will feature upgraded communications and integration with Norway’s national combat system. The package also includes Integrated Logistics Support, covering training and maintenance in collaboration with Norwegian industry.
The signing ceremony in Oslo was attended by Hanwha Aerospace President and CEO Jaeil Son, NDMA Director General Gro Jære, Norwegian Army Chief Major General Lars Lervik, and South Korean Ambassador Min-Jeong Seo. The deal follows earlier phases of procurement: in December 2017, Norway ordered 24 K9 VIDARs and six K10 resupply vehicles, which were delivered by 2020 with training established at Bjerkvik. The first operational battery was fielded at Setermoen on January 1, 2021, with additional deployments later that year. In November 2022, Norway exercised an option for four more K9s and eight K10s. By early 2025, the army had 28 K9s and 14 K10s in service. In April 2025, the government confirmed plans to procure another 24 K9 VIDARs worth approximately $534 million, a commitment now finalized through this September 2025 contract.
