Rheinmetall is on track to secure a major contract with the German Armed Forces for Skyranger self-propelled air defense systems, expected to be signed by late 2025. CEO Armin Papperger estimated the deal’s value at 6–8 billion euros ($6.9–$9.2 billion) for a large number of systems. Although exact quantities remain undisclosed, prior German defense plans have indicated a potential requirement for 500–600 Skyranger 30 units across multiple variants, according to Defence Industry Europe. Papperger explained that the acquisition will start with a framework agreement, followed by incremental execution contracts. Delivery schedules currently cover the period up to 2029, with additional shipments planned between 2029 and 2035. This procurement forms part of Germany’s strategy to reach NATO defense spending goals, targeting about 3.5 percent of GDP for defense by 2029, alongside an expected update to alliance capability objectives.
