STI Steyr has entered the competition for one of Austria’s largest-ever military vehicle acquisition programs, proposing its LMV-X Light Multi-Mission Vehicle and LTV-X Light Tactical Vehicle for a procurement estimated at nearly €1 billion ($1.1 billion).
The Austrian Armed Forces plan to acquire several thousand vehicles across eight capability categories, ranging from light and heavy armored vehicles to reconnaissance and infantry transport platforms, as reported by Militär Aktuell.
Bid evaluations are expected to begin shortly, setting the stage for negotiations and eventual contract awards.
The procurement has attracted multiple international competitors, with decision-makers expected to assess technical capability, delivery performance, industrial cooperation, long-term sustainment, and cost-effectiveness before selecting the winning proposals.
STI Steyr is marketing the LMV-X and LTV-X as future-ready, modular platforms built around a common vehicle architecture that supports a wide range of missions while reducing maintenance complexity, logistics requirements, and overall ownership costs.
Designed with scalable and upgradeable systems, the vehicles can be equipped with advanced communications, sensor packages, electronic warfare systems, counter-unmanned aerial capabilities, and other evolving mission technologies.
If awarded the contract, STI Steyr plans to manufacture the vehicles entirely within Austria, invest around €30 million ($34.2 million) in domestic production capabilities, and expand cooperation with Austrian suppliers. The company also believes the program could serve as a launchpad for future exports as defense modernization accelerates across Europe.
