Berlin has awarded RTX subsidiary Raytheon ELCAN a contract to provide its Specter DR 1–4x weapon sight in a bespoke version adapted to German operational standards, supporting the country’s broader infantry modernization initiative.
Under the agreement, Raytheon will partner with Leonardo Germany to supply a modified configuration that incorporates an Aimpoint reflex optic positioned above the primary sight, allowing seamless transitions between short-range encounters and engagements at extended distances.
Growing European Momentum for Specter DR
The procurement aligns with a broader European trend toward advanced infantry optics packages featuring laser protection across multiple bands, customized reticles, and national design specifications. Since mid-2024, several European nations — including Germany, Denmark, Lithuania, Spain, Italy, and Finland — have collectively ordered over 100,000 Specter DR units worth more than 193 million euros.
Denmark was one of the first recent customers to adopt the system. In February 2025, the Danish Armed Forces secured a multi-million-dollar contract via the NATO Support and Procurement Agency for dual-role Specter DR sights, replacing older fixed optics and enhancing infantry effectiveness in both close combat and precision fire scenarios.
