Babcock has entered into three new agreements with Danish companies to investigate the use of autonomous technology, integrated systems, and advanced equipment across future naval platforms.
The agreements, announced at DALO Industry Days, bring together Babcock with Danish technology firms STORMBORN and CUBEDIN, as well as maritime systems supplier SH Group.
The partnerships aim to explore how Danish technologies could contribute to naval fleets operating a combination of conventional crewed warships and autonomous systems.
Under its agreement with STORMBORN, Babcock will study the integration of uncrewed technologies into larger naval programs, emphasizing interoperability and effective coordination between manned and autonomous platforms.
The collaboration with CUBEDIN will focus on developing standardized physical and digital interfaces that could make it easier for navies to integrate, upgrade, or replace mission systems, sensors, and autonomous capabilities without extensive vessel modifications.
Babcock’s agreement with SH Group will examine cooperation on ship and naval platform systems, potentially increasing the participation of Danish suppliers in ships developed for both domestic and export markets.
These initiatives are connected to Babcock’s “Hybrid Navy” vision, which involves crewed warships controlling or coordinating dispersed autonomous and AI-enabled systems. The concept aligns with the UK Royal Navy’s plans for its future fleet.
Babcock will also explore the potential application of these capabilities with Danish industry and the Royal Danish Navy. The company’s existing relationship with Denmark includes the Arrowhead 140 frigate, derived from the Danish Iver Huitfeldt-class design and selected as the basis for the Royal Navy’s Type 31 frigate program.
