The US Army is preparing a new long-term support arrangement with Raytheon for the TOW Improved Target Acquisition System, including its vehicle-mounted MITAS version. The planned agreement will provide maintenance services, spare components, technical field assistance, data management, and logistics coordination for American forces and future allied customers. The contract is expected to run from 2028 through 2030, beginning with a one-year base period and two optional extensions. Army officials stated that Raytheon is the only company capable of meeting the requirement because of its direct involvement in the system’s original development. ITAS enhances the effectiveness of the TOW anti-tank missile by using thermal imaging, laser rangefinding, and digital fire-control technology, allowing crews to engage armored targets accurately during both day and night operations.
