Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited has reached a key milestone by dispatching the Enhanced Pinaka Mk-I rocket system to the Indian Army, marking the first such delivery by a private-sector company. The achievement underscores the growing contribution of private players to India’s defence ecosystem and supports the broader goal of indigenous capability development under Atmanirbhar Bharat.
The Enhanced Pinaka Mk-I introduces substantial improvements over its predecessor, particularly in range, which has been extended to between 45 and 60 kilometers compared to the earlier 37.5 kilometers. This enhancement allows the Army to strike deeper targets while minimizing exposure to enemy retaliation.
Maintaining its role as a high-volume area-denial system, the launcher can fire a complete salvo of 12 rockets in under a minute. When operated in a standard six-launcher battery configuration, it can saturate a large target zone, making it highly effective for neutralizing enemy formations, logistics nodes, and lightly defended structures.
Additionally, the system is equipped with modern upgrades including advanced tracking systems and AGAPS, which streamline targeting and firing operations. These technologies reduce the time required to transition from movement to firing, enhancing responsiveness, operational efficiency, and survivability in fast-evolving combat scenarios.
