Northrop Grumman has secured a US Navy contract modification to produce up to nine more SEWIP Block 3 electronic warfare systems, expanding the fleet’s ability to counter incoming missile threats. The latest award follows a $334 million agreement signed in late 2025 and includes the first system set intended for deployment on an aircraft carrier, bringing the total number of contracted units to 24.

The SEWIP Block 3 system delivers cutting-edge electronic attack capabilities, allowing warships to identify, jam, and neutralize hostile missiles before they reach their targets. As part of efforts to extend these capabilities across a wider range of vessels, Northrop Grumman is also advancing the Scaled Onboard Electronic Attack system. This lighter, more adaptable version is designed for ships with limited capacity, offering electronic warfare functionality with lower size, weight, and power demands. The system is currently in a rapid prototyping phase.

This initiative aligns with a wider modernization effort across the US Navy to enhance electronic warfare capabilities. Raytheon’s Next Generation Jammer Mid-Band, designed for the EA-18G Growler, introduces advanced AESA-based jamming technology to replace legacy systems, while L3Harris is developing the Low Band variant to expand coverage across additional frequency ranges. Meanwhile, ELTA North America is contributing to the effort with stand-off jamming technologies aimed at disrupting enemy communications from extended distances, reducing operational risk in contested airspace.
