Rolls-Royce Power Systems has been awarded a contract to supply 200 mtu PowerPack propulsion units for Germany’s Puma infantry fighting vehicle fleet. The systems feature upgraded cooling technology, advanced power electronics, and a 10V 890 engine delivering in excess of 1,000 horsepower. With this setup, the Puma can reach speeds of up to 70 km/h and operate across distances of roughly 600 kilometers, with deliveries slated to commence in 2028.
The company highlighted the agreement as one of its most significant defense contracts, reflecting Germany’s reliance on its propulsion technology for demanding battlefield conditions. This order comes after Germany committed over $4 billion to expand its Puma IFV fleet under a joint Rheinmetall and KNDS program. The new batch of 200 vehicles will be armed with Rafael’s Spike LR anti-tank missiles, complementing an existing inventory of approximately 350 units that have largely been inducted since 2013.
