The German defense procurement authority has contracted Turbo-Technik to support the integration of the NH90 Sea Tiger helicopter onto the Navy’s F124-class frigates.

Under the agreement, the company will carry out structural adaptations to the vessels, particularly involving the flight deck and hangar sections, while also installing the interfaces and support systems needed for helicopter operations, servicing, and maintenance.

The NH90 Sea Tiger is set to replace the long-serving Sea Lynx Mk88A fleet, which entered German Navy service more than four decades ago in 1981.

Strengthening Naval Aviation Capabilities

Germany placed an order for 31 NH90 Sea Tiger helicopters in 2020 under a program valued at 2.7 billion euros ($3.16 billion), with the first aircraft delivered in December.

Designed for modern maritime warfare, the helicopter incorporates advanced avionics, sensor technologies, and weapon systems intended to improve the German Navy’s ability to counter both surface and subsurface threats.

In addition to anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare missions, the Sea Tiger can undertake reconnaissance, transport, and search-and-rescue operations.

The platform is equipped with mission systems supporting torpedoes and missile-based engagements, alongside a dipping sonar and sophisticated sonobuoy package for enhanced underwater awareness and submarine tracking.

Its electro-optical sensors and integrated camera systems further improve maritime surveillance, target identification, and operational situational awareness.
