As part of its ongoing military modernization efforts, Poland has awarded a contract worth approximately 600 million Polish złotys ($158.7 million) to Fabryka Broni Radom for the supply of nearly 46,000 MSBS Grot A3 assault rifles.
The contract, signed by the Polish Armament Agency and the state-owned weapons producer, covers deliveries scheduled through 2027. Earlier reports indicated that the agreement includes an initial order of 45,800 rifles, with provisions for the procurement of an additional 22,900 units under optional clauses.
The acquisition package is also expected to include 13,400 Vis 100 9mm semi-automatic pistols and approximately 1,300 40mm underbarrel grenade launchers, further enhancing the capabilities of Poland’s armed forces.
The MSBS Grot A3 is the newest iteration of Poland’s indigenous service rifle platform, featuring a series of upgrades introduced following operational assessments and feedback from military personnel. Improvements have been made to the weapon’s ergonomics, structural durability, and operational reliability.
Maintaining the firing rate of previous variants at approximately 700 to 900 rounds per minute, the Grot A3 incorporates a slimmer handguard, an upgraded gas regulator, a reinforced stock mounting assembly, and a redesigned receiver block. The rifle achieves a muzzle velocity of 890 meters per second and has an effective engagement range of up to 500 meters.
Introduced into service with the Polish Armed Forces in 2017, the Grot rifle family was developed collaboratively by Fabryka Broni and the Military University of Technology as a replacement for older-generation infantry weapons. Its modular design enables rapid reconfiguration for different operational requirements and supports both standard and bullpup configurations.
