Ottawa and Kyiv have agreed to jointly produce Ukrainian reconnaissance unmanned aerial systems in Canada under a new defence partnership aimed at increasing support for Ukraine’s military operations. Signed by defence representatives from both nations, the arrangement creates a joint venture between Airlogix of Ukraine and Canada-based Sentinel Research and Development to manufacture surveillance drones that will enhance intelligence collection and mission planning capabilities for Ukrainian forces.
The project reflects Canada’s growing commitment to defence cooperation with Ukraine, particularly in the fields of unmanned systems, electronic warfare, and counter-drone technologies. It also supports Ottawa’s efforts to expand domestic production of critical defence equipment. In recent months, Canada has introduced several initiatives to accelerate drone innovation, including a national programme focused on converting drones into affordable precision-strike assets and the deployment of anti-UAS solutions across key military and infrastructure sites. These measures complement a $663 million investment announced in March to boost drone research, development, and testing capabilities, further strengthening Canada’s role in next-generation defence technology.
