Embraer has finalized the modernization of two SABER M60 radar systems for the Brazilian Army, upgrading them to the 2.0 standard under an ongoing program to enhance in-service capabilities. The contract includes a total of eight units and is designed to extend operational lifespan while sustaining air defense performance. By applying a mid-life upgrade approach, the program introduces updated technical standards to improve system reliability, availability, and overall effectiveness, while ensuring fleet-wide consistency.
The first upgraded systems are already operational, with additional units set to be upgraded in subsequent phases. This effort builds upon previous deliveries, including two SABER M60 radars delivered in 2022.
The SABER M60 is a 3D radar system designed for low-altitude surveillance and fire control, offering a range of up to 60 kilometers and the ability to track up to 60 targets simultaneously. It supports the defense of high-value sites and infrastructure within Brazil’s short-range air defense framework.
The 2.0 configuration incorporates both hardware and software upgrades. Enhanced signal processing algorithms improve detection and tracking, especially in environments affected by electronic interference. Additionally, the system interface has been optimized for ease of use during demanding operational scenarios.
Designed for interoperability within layered air defense architectures, the radar can integrate with missile and gun-based systems. It also features Low Probability of Interception capabilities, reducing the likelihood of detection by enemy sensors.
