Airbus has awarded Saab two contracts worth a combined 549 million euros ($676 million) to upgrade Germany’s Eurofighter aircraft with the Arexis electronic warfare sensor suite.
The first order—around 291 million euros ($337 million)—extends an earlier March 2024 deal with Airbus Defence and Space for integrating Arexis into the Eurofighter EK configuration.
The second contract, valued at a similar amount, incorporates AI-based technologies developed by Saab and its partner Helsing and awaits formal approval.
Deliveries for both contracts are scheduled between 2025 and 2028.

About the Arexis EW Suite
Initially designed as a podded solution for the Swedish Gripen, the Arexis system can now be embedded directly into an aircraft, mounted in a mission pod, or used on unmanned platforms.
It features high-power GaN AESA arrays, ultra-wideband receivers, and advanced digital radio-frequency memory systems, enabling it to disrupt “anti-stealth” radars and operate within heavily defended airspace.
On the Eurofighter, Arexis will replace the current wingtip pods containing the Defensive Aids Sub-System.

Eurofighter EK Upgrade
Fifteen Eurofighters will receive the Arexis suite under the EK program, which is intended to replace Germany’s Tornado ECR electronic combat/reconnaissance fleet.
These aircraft will be certified for NATO missions by 2030. An additional 20 Tranche 5 Eurofighters will also be delivered in the EK configuration.
The upgraded aircraft will also carry the AGM-88E AARGM, using an active millimeter-wave seeker to engage surface-to-air radars even if they shut down.
