Indra has officially taken over a large-scale manufacturing plant in northern Spain to expand its ground vehicle production in support of European defense projects.

The facility, located in Gijón, Asturias, was acquired from heavy industry firm Duro Felguera, along with its 150-plus highly qualified personnel. The property covers 75,000 square meters (807,293 sq ft), including 23,000 square meters (247,569 sq ft) of sheltered industrial space.

Indra intends to upgrade the site to manufacture a variety of tactical ground vehicles—both tracked and wheeled. It will also launch training initiatives to transition the workforce into defense manufacturing and invest in new equipment and production infrastructure.

This acquisition underlines Indra’s role in enhancing European defense capabilities and marks the first phase of developing Asturias into its primary hub for land systems production.

As one of Europe’s leading defense tech firms, Indra supports automation and smart systems integration in armored vehicles. It contributes to programs like the FAMOUS APC and MARTE MBT, and is a core partner in Spain’s Dragon 8×8 program through TESS Defence.
