US technology companies Lantronix and Swarmer have developed a new artificial intelligence-enabled computing platform aimed at improving the capabilities of small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The solution combines Lantronix’s Open-Q 6490CS processing module with Swarmer’s autonomous software to provide enhanced onboard computing performance.The companies state that the system can deliver up to four times greater processing power compared with existing UAV solutions. This advancement enables drones to perform advanced AI-based functions such as visual navigation, automated target recognition, precision tracking, and autonomous collaboration between multiple platforms.By increasing computing capability at the edge, UAVs can process information faster, reduce dependence on remote operators, and operate more effectively in challenging environments where communication networks may be limited.
