Germany has placed a 1.04-billion-euro ($1.2 billion) order with Rheinmetall Electronics for additional Infantry Soldier of the Future – Enhanced System (IdZ-ES) kits to strengthen its military capabilities.

The agreement covers 237 new platoon systems and the modernization of existing IdZ-ES units. Once delivered, the systems will support around 8,600 personnel, increasing total procurement under the program to 353 platoon systems and nearly 12,000 individual kits. Deliveries are planned from 2027 through 2029.

The IdZ-ES is an integrated, network-enabled soldier system that improves battlefield coordination across different unit types. Each platoon system includes 35 individual soldier kits equipped with protective equipment, weapon accessories, navigation aids, optical and optronic devices, and communication tools.

All components are connected via a centralized command and control unit managed by squad leaders, enabling seamless data sharing between troops, Boxer armored vehicles, Puma infantry fighting vehicles, and future airborne platforms.

The contract falls under a broader 2025 framework agreement with a ceiling value of 3.1 billion euros ($3.6 billion), expected to run until 2030. So far, 68 platoon systems are operational, with 24 more on order, and the program involves contributions from more than 30 subcontractors.
