Kuwait has established its first light ammunition manufacturing plant, marking a significant step toward expanding its domestic defense production capabilities.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who formally launched operations at the Nayef Light Ammunition Factory by activating the facility’s production system.
Government officials described the project as Kuwait’s first in-country ammunition production venture and the nation’s inaugural light ammunition production line. The facility operates under stringent quality control and safety measures, meeting NATO manufacturing standards.
The event brought together key defense figures, including Defense Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and senior commanders from Kuwait’s armed forces.
In his address, Al-Sabah called the factory a strategic enhancement to national defense infrastructure, underscoring Kuwait’s commitment to equipping its military forces according to modern technological benchmarks. He also acknowledged the efforts of those who built the facility and voiced optimism about the workforce that will sustain its operations.

The plant will work in partnership with China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO), a leading Chinese state-owned arms manufacturer serving the People’s Liberation Army.
CEO Ji Wei reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Kuwait through technology transfer, expertise sharing, and training programs to develop local talent.
