Myanmar has been experiencing a prolonged and violent civil war since the military takeover in February 2021. The coup removed the elected government and triggered widespread unrest across the country. In response to harsh crackdowns on peaceful protests, many civilians joined or formed armed resistance groups. These groups later aligned with long-standing ethnic armed organizations that have historically opposed central authority. According to conflict monitoring agencies like ACLED, the violence has resulted in over 100,000 deaths, although exact figures vary due to limited official reporting. Fighting has spread across multiple regions, involving both urban guerrilla warfare and rural insurgencies. The conflict has severely destabilized the country, making it one of the deadliest ongoing wars in Asia.
