Teledyne FLIR Defense has been contracted to deliver and integrate reconnaissance and surveillance systems for Bulgaria’s Stryker armored vehicles, supporting the nation’s defense modernization.

The three-year, $32-million US Army contract includes the TacFLIR 280-HDEP EO/IR imaging system, Ranger R20SS long-range radar, and the Cameleon command-and-control software. Kits will be manufactured in Teledyne’s US and Canadian facilities and installed in Bulgaria.

Future program phases will provide standoff identification capabilities using unmanned aircraft and launch systems paired with nuclear, biological, and chemical detection sensors. The effort complements Bulgaria’s acquisition of nearly 200 Strykers, which are replacing legacy Soviet-era vehicles.

According to Teledyne, the TacFLIR system enables detection and tracking in thermal, low-light, and varied terrain conditions, while the Ranger R20SS radar monitors personnel and vehicles up to 20 kilometers. Integrated through the Cameleon software, the system ensures flexible, scalable battlefield awareness and enhanced NATO interoperability.
