The government of Kosovo has signed a deal with AM General to procure HUMVEEs fitted with artillery systems, strengthening the Kosovo Security Force’s mobile artillery capabilities.
At the core of the order is the Hawkeye 105-mm soft-recoil howitzer, a rapidly deployable system that can be mounted or dismounted from the vehicle in approximately 90 seconds. Based on the M20 gun, the weapon provides full 360-degree traverse, delivers up to eight rounds per minute, and reaches targets at distances of up to 20 kilometers, depending on ammunition selection.
The contract also includes logistics support, spare parts, sustainment services, and operator training, along with the delivery of medical support vehicles, command vehicles, and additional platforms designed to maximize the artillery unit’s lethality and readiness.
According to AM General, the Kosovo deal marks the first customer order for the HUMVEE Hawkeye configuration since its development began. Initial deliveries are expected between 2026 and 2027.
First revealed as a test platform in 2016, the Hawkeye system was later incorporated into simulated military exercises and entered operational combat testing with Ukrainian forces in 2024. AM General officially unveiled the finalized vehicle in October 2025, introducing a lighter, more flexible powertrain and refined vehicle architecture.
