Indra has partnered with Iveco Defence Vehicles to lead the integration of 34 new amphibious combat vehicles for Spain’s Marine Infantry. Although contract execution details have not been publicly released, reports indicate that the Spanish Ministry of Defence has committed €374 million ($441 million) to the program.
In this collaboration, IDV will provide the base vehicle architecture as the design authority, utilizing its SuperAV 8×8 chassis. Indra will integrate advanced mission systems such as command-and-control networks, battlefield awareness tools, and weapon systems. Assembly and integration activities will take place at Indra’s Gijón facility and an additional site yet to be selected.
The procurement includes 28 troop transport vehicles, supported by two command post variants, two recovery vehicles, and two ambulance configurations. Indra is also tasked with designing three additional variants, which will be entirely developed within Spain.
Internationally, the SuperAV platform has been proven through IDV’s collaboration with BAE Systems for the United States Marine Corps, where it forms the basis of the Amphibious Combat Vehicle. First contracted in 2018 following a 2011 partnership, deliveries began in 2020, gradually replacing aging Amphibious Assault Vehicles. The platform is also in service with Italy’s naval infantry under the Veicolo Blindato Anfibio program and will now be adapted for Spanish operational requirements under a national designation.
